Allotment & Gardens Association – the rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated!
10th October 2022
Please forgive the title but I wanted to grab your attention, so if you have started reading then I’ve achieved my initial objective – so thank you!
The Allotment & Gardens Association (AGA) is very much alive, and a new group of volunteers met on 23rd August agreeing to lead the Association and start work on developing a revival plan. I am delighted to have been elected Chair and together with other committee members we aim to create a plan and engage with the whole village.
At a time of changes in our climate, escalating food costs, the environmental impact of food miles there would appear to be no better time to focus everyone in the village on a sustainable approach to gardening and the cultivation of vegetables, fruit and plants etc. Combine that with the vast amount of gardening knowledge within the community, we are determined to ensure this ‘know how’ and experience is shared and not lost.
As far as I can determine the Association was formed back in 1973 so we look forward to celebrating ’50 years of cultivation’ next year. Our plans are progressing so watch this newsletter and our website for details.
Finally, our thanks must go to all previous members who have contributed their time and knowledge to the Association, specifically the last Chair Douglas McCowan. We aim to continue your enthusiasm and build on the foundations you have given to the village.
